DPI Announces AFI 5000P Marketing Partnership With Konica Minolta

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 15, 2006

Wilmington, Massachusetts, July 15, 2006. Dimensional Photonics International, Inc. (DPI), producer of high-performance digital shape scanners, announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Konica Minolta to distribute the AFI 5000P along with Konica Minolta's Vivid 9i scanner.

"With the AFI 5000P in our product portfolio," explains Marty Chader, Konica Minolta's 3D business manager in the Americas, "we will be better able to serve customers who need shape scanning of large, closely-toleranced industrial parts of all sorts. The AFI 5000P has attributes that are particularly valuable to our customers. For example, the AFI 5000P can scan dull to shiny parts including machined surfaces better than any technology I've seen to date, with or without spray and targets. Further, the AFI5000P is relatively unaffected by the ambient light conditions that plague white-light scanners."

DPI shape scanners are based on technology developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) called Accordion Fringe Interferometry (AFI). AFI based scanners use lasers to essentially immerse an object in 3D patterns of light. A digital camera records the way that the light patterns reflect off of a part surface in order to precisely capture the dimensions of the viewable surface.

"DPI is very pleased to have a marketing partner with the experience and strength of Konica Minolta," says Scott Ackerson, President of DPI. "We hope that our AFI-based products will ultimately support Konica Minolta in many areas of its global business."
